LG Coming Out With Optimus L Line; Three Devices Headed for the MWC

If you’re keeping tabs on what to expect at Mobile World Congress, we have new information for you! After announcing the Optimus Vu, LG has added three more devices to their lineup called the L-Style category.

According to LG, this new category refers to a ‘new design identity’ which showcases a ‘timeless design with finer details.’ The devices under this category all hold the 5 aesthetic elements which LG has set as a standard:

  • Modern Square Style for a comfortable grip
  • Floating Mass Technology for a slimmer look
  • Seamless Layout for a more intuitive arrangement of keys
  • Harmonized Design Contrast utilizing metallic accents
  • Sensuous Slim Shape that naturally draws one’s attention

Included in this category are the new L-Style smartphones namely the Optimus L3, the Optimus L5, and the Optimus L7.

Optimus L3

The Optimus L3 has been said to have a 3.2-inch display. While a Europe release has been set for March, there are no details on its North American launch yet.

Optimus L5 and Optimus L7

Meanwhile, the Optimus L5 bears a 4-inch display and runs on the latest Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich OS.

Just like the Optimus L5, the Optimus L7 runs on ICS. It has a slightly bigger screen (4.3-inches), compared to the former.

These two devices are said to launch ‘in the first half of the year;’ which roughly means Q2. Again, there have been no details on a U.S. or Canadian launch.

Other specs of these three devices will be revealed at the MWC this weekend, so stay tuned!

Sony Xperia S Leaked Photos Circulate the Web

After last night’s post on SmarTags app for the Sony Xperia S, we have even more exciting news for those waiting for the device (myself included). A few leaked photos of the device have been found by an Italian blog called Android HD blog. Sitting beside it is its smaller sibling, the Xperia U; which was previously called the Sony Kumquat. Compared with the Xperia S, the Xperia U still bears the name ‘Sony Ericsson.’ By now, you probably know that Sony Ericsson is no longer a unified brand. These devices are only called Sony now. Perhaps, Sony still plans to change it?

Anyway, we’re pretty excited to see more information or even leaked photos of the Xperia S alone and without its little bro. Maybe we’ll finally see that at the Mobile World Congress this weekend? What do you think?

Panasonic Eluga Debuting in Europe, Will We See it at MWC too?

Earlier today, Fujitsu announced that they will be debuting at the Mobile World Congress so they can inform the Europe market that they will be selling their smartphones there. Panasonic has followed suit and has announced that they will be bringing the Panasonic Eluga handset to the Eurozone within the year. This marks the Eluga as the first high-end Android smartphone that will be making a debut outside its motherland, Japan.

With regard to the specs of the device, the Eluga is believed to have a NFC capability and qHD display. It also has a 4.3-inches screen, OLED display, and a capacitive menu button. Even though Panasonic did not announce which version the Eluga’s OS will be, many speculate that it will be (at least) Android Gingerbread. Apart from being resistant to water and dust, that’s all the information the company has divulged at this time.

Perhaps we’ll see the Eluga at the MWC this Sunday. By then, we’ll give you more information on its specs, availability and pricing. We’ll also let you know if it is one smartphone to trade your Samsung over. Or you simply getting the Eluga as a remote control for your Panasonic TV at home.

Fujitsu Hitting Europe and US Smartphone Markets Soon

In the past, Fujitsu said they did not have any plans of launching mobile phones outside Asia. However, this seems to change now with today’s report that the Japanese brand is planning to start selling their Android and Windows Phone based devices in Europe. Fujitsu will be debuting this at the Mobile World Congress on Sunday. After its Europe launch, the company will also be selling their devices to the US market by this year; if not in 2013.

As of this writing, we still don’t know if Fujitsu will be concentrating on selling Android or Windows Phone devices to the UK and US markets. This bit of information will have to be anticipated at the MWC. But for the moment, let’s be happy that we’ve got more options!

Huawei Teases Us with Images of the Ascend D1 Q

Just last week, we posted a rumor that Huawei was planning to release the ‘fastest smartphone yet’ at the upcoming Mobile World Congress. On that similar post, we told you guys that the Ascend D1 Q was the device speculated to be given this new title by the company.

Today, we found these teaser images of the device on the Weibo (Chinese Twitter) account of Huawei’s marketing team. Even though they did not mention anything specific about the device on these images, the Ascend D1 Q is looking sleek and a whole range of sorts. Considering Huawei has always been known for its cheap, entry level devices; the Ascend D1 Q is certainly a rise above the rest.

As for its specs and other information, we will have to wait until Huawei finally reveals more about this quad-core Tegra 3 processor device.

Two More HTC Devices Get Renamed as HTC One V and One XL

Earlier, we published a report on HTC and its current name changing stage. On that report, we gave information that HTC is renaming the HTC Ville into HTC One S; and the HTC Endeavor into the HTC One X. We found out today that that this series of name changing trend is not yet over.

The HTC Primo and the HTC Quattro are the two most recent victims of this trend. As HTC changes the name of the Primo to One V and Quattro to One XL, we can’t help but wonder which other devices will be given a new name. However, the Quattro name changing into One XL is a speculation made by many tech experts. Anyway, if you still don’t have a clue on what these devices are, here is a brief summary of their specs:

HTC Primo/One V

The HTC One V features a 3.7-inch Super AMOLED Gorilla Glass screen display, 1GHz dual-core processor, 5MP rear camera, f/2.0 lens capable of 720p video capture, and 512MB RAM. Apart from being 9mm thick, the device has been said to feature Beats Audio integration; thus making it a music-focused smartphone.

HTC Quattro/One XL

As mentioned earlier, the Quattro is not the official phone to be changed into the One XL. In fact, news about the existence of a device under the name of One XL has been given by a source of our friends at Pocket-Lint. The Quattro is then the first device that came into the minds of several tech experts, including our own source, because it originally surfaced in the early days of November 2011. During that time, the device was believed to feature a 10.1-inch screen, 1280x768p resolution, 1GB RAM, 16GB internal storage, quad-core Tegra 3 processor, Beats Audio and HTC Scribe integration.

We expect to learn more about these devices at the Mobile World Congress this weekend!

With these two additional devices part of HTC’s name changing game, are you only getting confused about them or is it helping you in any way? Let us know in the comments below!

Spotlight on ZTE and the Devices Headed to the Mobile World Congress

Everybody’s pretty excited to see what smartphone and tablet manufacturers will be announcing at the upcoming Mobile World Congress scheduled for this weekend. This is why they have been looking out for information on what new devices can be expected from their favorite device manufacturers.

Over here at Android Authority, we also can’t hold our excitement. That is why we have kept our readers up to date with the latest news. Although we’ve been talking mostly about the Samsung Galaxy S3 and rumored quad-core Huawei smartphones, we have to play fair and give news on the other manufacturers that are also planning something big for the public; and certainly, we have reason to believe ZTE is doing remarkably well in the inexpensive smartphone market. But now that we’ve learned the company hopes to make it big in the high-end smartphone market too, we’re keeping our fingers crossed! As part of this attempt, ZTE has announced (at least) a couple of these devices will be revealed at the MWC on Sunday.  Here are more details about these devices:

PF200

The PF200 is an Android smartphone running on the latest Ice Cream Sandwich OS. It features a 4.3-inch screen complete with a 960x540p resolution and 1.2GHz processor. As for its camera, it will have a 8MP rear camera and a front-facing camera capable of recording up to 1080p video. According to ZTE, the PF200 will support the main GSM, LTE, and UMTS bands.

N910

On the other hand, the N910 is another device which ZTE is slated to announce at the MWC. Compared to the previous smartphone, the N910 is a lower-end model which will run on Android 4.0 and have a 1.5GHz processor. Other specs include a 800×480 capacitive touchscreen, 5MP rear camera, front facing camera, and 1080p video capture. It is also headed towards the LTE and CDMA networks, so you can bet it will be available on Verizon.

The ZTE Mimosa is also another device scheduled for revealing at the MWC. However, we don’t have any information on that as of this writing. Also, there are still a number of missing information on these devices but since the MWC is just a few days away, we’ll leave it at that. However, if you are dissatisfied with these devices, ZTE says that these are just some of the first devices they are announcing over the coming months. So you can stay tuned for that as well!

Leaked Details on ASUS Transformer TF700T, More Units Expected at MWC

A polish website called Tabletowo.pl has published a leaked slide containing details about the ASUS Transformer FHD TF700T.

One of the things revealed about the tablet is that it a variant of it will no longer be powered by the usual NVIDIA Tegra 3 chip; which ASUS has been exclusively using in the past. Instead, the Transformer FHD TF700T runs on a 1.5GHz APQ8060A dual-core processor by Qualcomm. The reason behind this switch was an obvious one: ASUS wanted that this variant to have more powerful video bandwidth memory. And since Tegra 3 was incapable of providing the tablet’s needed 2.4GB video bandwidth, ASUS had no choice but to use Qualcomm’s APQ8060A.

Aside from the processor, other specs believed to complete the TF700T include a 1920x1200p screen resolution, 1G LPDDR2 RAM, 2MP front facing camera, and 8MP rear camera capable of 1080p video recording. It will also run on Android 4.0.

More information about the TF700T will be revealed at Mobile World Congress. Along with the TF700T, ASUS is expected to announce the Transformer TF300T; a cheaper version of the current Transformer Prime TF201. Compared to its predecessor, the TF300T bears a regular IPS panel and 16GB NAND flash memory. On the plus side, this is the first tablet that will launch with 1066MHz clocked DDR3L memory.
