HTC Amaze 4G to get Ice Cream Sandwich on May 21

As owners of the HTC Sensation 4G are gleefully receiving their OTA update of Ice Cream Sandwich, which has been available since May 16, we expect to hear the same collective sigh of relief from HTC Amaze 4G owners pretty soon. It seems we’re not that far off the mark when we said that ICS upgrade for the phone would come not too long after it lands on HTC Sensation 4G.

As can be seen from the updated support page for HTC Amaze 4G on T-Mobile’s website, the carrier is ready to roll out ICS for HTC Amaze 4G starting May 21. Since it’s an OTA update, all you have to do is check your phone for an update notification on the due date. You can also request the update via HTC software updates menu and tap “Check Now”.

The update will bring the following to your HTC Amaze 4G:

  • Android 4.0.3 (Ice Cream Sandwich)
  • Sense 3.6
  • System bar enhancements to easily view recent apps.
  • Re-sizeable widgets
  • Lock screen actions including pull down notifications and adjust volume while device is locked.
  • Data usage controls.
  • Face Unlock
  • Home screen folders
  • Improved battery life

With three days away from the OTA update for the HTC Amaze 4G, you could use the remaining time to say goodbye to the good old Gingerbread. Enjoy your ICS treat soon.

Samsung Galaxy S3 comes a day early for pre-order customers in the UK

We’ve given you the nitty-gritty details of where you can buy the Samsung Galaxy S3 in the UK. Now there’s some good news for those who have pre-ordered the phone from the Samsung Brand store at Westfield Stratford City. According to Samsung Mobile UK, you will be able to collect the curvaceous phone the night before its official launch date of May 30. So, if you’re in town on May 29, pay the store a visit starting from 6 PM, and you’ll be coming home with the Samsung Galaxy S3.

For those who haven’t pre-ordered the Samsung Galaxy S3, note that you won’t be able to buy the phone on May 29 in stores, as the stocks are strictly reserved for those who have made the pre-order. Your best bet is to show up a day after.

Don’t feel too bad if you didn’t pre-order your Galaxy S3 from the Samsung Brand store, as there’s a possibility that you can pick up the phone on the same date from the retailer you’re preordering the phone from, albeit an hour later from 7 PM, as per Samsung’s policy. But you’ll have to confirm this with the retailer, because it all depends on each retailer preferences.

Moving up the availability of the Samsung Galaxy S3 a day early for people who pre-ordered the phone is Samsung’s idea of a surprise. Samsung UK and Ireland VP Simon Stanford said that the company “had an overwhelming response from our retail partners and customers alike since announcing the Galaxy S III on 3 May. So we wanted to delight our customers and reward them for pre-ordering by letting them get their hands on the device a day before anyone else. We believe we have created our best smartphone yet, designed specifically with daily human needs in mind, and we are proud to provide our customers with a truly unique mobile user experience.”

Or, this could simply be Samsung’s way to boost the pre-order numbers of the phone, which we already know are spectacular. Either way, there’s still time to make that Samsung Galaxy S3 pre-order, if you want to get it earlier than the rest of UK folks.

Amazon sells AT&T’s HTC One X for $129.99, get it while you can

With Sprint’s HTC EVO 4G LTE still stuck in a legal limbo, we wouldn’t blame impatient customers for glancing in AT&T’s direction, at the delectable HTC One X. Of course, the import banned affected HTC’s version of the One X too, but it seems that at least some units made it into the country before the ban was enforced. The One X is out of stock on AT&T’s site, but you can still get it from other retailers, and at a great price too.

We are talking about Amazon, the online retail giant that has long been the savior of those who crave new smartphones at discounted prices. When the HTC One X first came out, Amazon had it for $179.99. Now, the online retailer has the HTC One X priced at a convenient $129.99.

Amazon’s current offer is $70 cheaper than buying the phone from AT&T directly. What’s even better, the deal is valid for both new customers and for those who are already on a contract with the carrier and want to upgrade their phone.

Both the gray and the white versions of the HTC One X are available for purchase on Amazon Wireless. The gray version is in stock and will be shipped out in 24 hours, but the white version would only be delivered in 1 – 3 weeks (something to do with the ban, maybe?)

It looks like the white HTC One X, which had its moment in the TV sun during a recent American Idol episode, is the more popular choice amongst the two. You may want to head to Amazon before the offer expires!

Are you tempted to get the HTC One X, now that it’s been heavily discounted?

Unlocked GSM Samsung Galaxy S3 available for pre-order on Amazon.com, ships as soon as May 25

The long awaited Samsung Galaxy S3 is still about ten days away, that is if you’re lucky enough to live in Europe or the other regions where the vaunted device will come early. For those on the other side of the Atlantic, Samsung has only offered an annoyingly vague “this summer” as an availability date.

Why are American users among the last to get new devices? It’s because the immense power that big carriers wield in the US, and also, due to the specifics of the market. Manufacturers have to adapt their devices to the carriers’ requests, and also to ensure the technical compatibility between handsets and the cell networks that are prevalent in North America.

Of course, you can always skip carriers and get yourself an unlocked device, if you are willing to put up with the significant price hike and some limitations. Case in point: you can now pre-order an unlocked, GSM Samsung Galaxy S3 16GB from Amazon.com, starting from $779.99.

Now, 800 bucks is a hefty price tag, no matter how you look at it, but considering the savings that you can make by going pre-paid, it might be something to consider. You can get the device from several vendors, some of which claim that they’ll ship the device even before the official May 29 worldwide release date (with the customary warnings). For example, retailer Tailwind says it will get the Galaxy S3 in its inventory as early as May 24 and begin fulfilling orders the next day. So, yeah, you’ll get the bragging rights associated with sporting the Galaxy S3 before any of your friends.

For the caveat part, this is the GSM version of the phone, which will not work on Verizon’s or Sprint CDMA networks. As for LTE, forget about it. On the flipside, this version is powered by a quad-core Exynos 4 processor, as Mother Samsung intended, and not the S4 Snapdragon that will probably tick inside the US versions of the Galaxy S3.

So, folks, if you don’t care about LTE or CDMA, and you are sick of depending on carriers, the beautiful Galaxy S3 might be your own personal vehicle to phone nirvana.

Bummer, Best Buy has indefinitely delayed shipments of HTC EVO 4G LTE

Potential owners of HTC EVO 4G LTE were supposed to be playing with their new device today, but due to the legal tussle between HTC and Apple, that dream is temporary shelved.

It’s been an even bigger disappointment for Best Buy customers who have pre-ordered the phone. When word went out that shipments of  the HTC EVO 4G LTE have been held up in Customs, thus delaying the phone’s availability in the US, customers received confirmation emails from Best Buy that the phone would still be delivered on May 23. It looks like that’s not going to be the case now.

We hate to be the bearer of bad news, but we have to tell you that Best Buy is now busy sending out clarification emails to tell customers that the shipment of the HTC EVO 4G LTE has been delayed for an unspecified amount of time.  This means that their knowledge of when HTC will settle the dispute is as good as your guessing.

While Sprint has updated its website to reflect the sales delay of HTC EVO 4G LTE in their stores, they are also in the dark about the specific availability of the phone. However, they did mention that HTC is still “working closely with Customs to secure approval”.

Sprint said that those who pre-ordered the HTC EVO 4G LTE will be prioritized to get the phone once HTC has received green light from Customs. If the waiting gets too long, Sprint allows customers to cancel their pre-orders of the phone and refunds will be handed out. We suggest you wait a couple of days before making that decision, though.

How upset are you about the shipment delay of HTC EVO 4G LTE? Will you be moving on to another phone if things aren’t settled soon? If so, which phone do you have your eyes set on?

Report: 9 million units of Samsung Galaxy S3 have been pre-ordered

Hot dang, Sammy! You sure know how to make an entrance. All those torturous months of hype and excitement building up, which finally led to the climactic unveiling of the Samsung Galaxy S3 in London, seem to have paid off in major way. According to a newspaper in South Korea, the Samsung Galaxy S3 is off to a very promising start.

The Korea Economic Daily reported that pre-order numbers for Samsung Galaxy S3 have reached 9 million units from over 100 carriers worldwide. This isn’t just some random number pulled out of thin air, as it was quoted from an internal source that wished to remain unidentified. But we’re betting that we’ll get those press releases from Samsung soon as soon as the phone is out.

Anyway, the same source said that Samsung has been hard at work to meet the overwhelming demand for the flagship phone by operating its factories at maximum capacity: that’s about 5 million units of Galaxy S3 phone per month.

Since we’re talking numbers, it’d be interesting to see how the Galaxy S3 will fare against its predecessor. It took Samsung roughly nine months to sell 20 million units of the Galaxy S2, which is quite a tough act to follow for the Korean company. But we have a hunch that exceeding Galaxy S2’s numbers will not be an issue for the Samsung Galaxy S3.

With Samsung officially becoming the largest phone maker in the world, a title it took over from Nokia recently, Samsung’s reign and dominance in the smartphone market will be pushed further with the coming release of Samsung Galaxy S3.

Are you one of the 9 million people who have apparently pre-ordered the phone?

HTC Ville C leaked specs show up, peculiarly similar to HTC One S

Cheer up, Desire C, it looks like you won’t be the only C device in HTC’s growing list of smartphones, despite the manufacturer’s pledge to release fewer devices this year.

A leaked screenshot of the HTC Ville C has been unearthed by the folks at BriefMobile, but not of the phone – just the specs. According to their source, the HTC Ville C will be offered as a more affordable alternative to the HTC One S. Let’s check out what the HTC Ville C supposedly has under its casing.

Starting from the exterior, the HTC Ville C is expected to be another ultra slim phone, but at this point, we can’t tell if it’s going to be as gorgeously thin as the HTC One S. From the picture, it appears the phone will be powered by a dual-core 1.7GHz Qualcomm MSM8260 S3 processor. But don’t get too excited just yet, because this was apparently a mistype and the actual speed is clocked at 1.2GHz. As for other specs, the HTC Ville C will come with a 4.3-inch qHD AMOLED screen, 16GB internal storage, 1GB RAM, 8MP rear camera, VGA front camera, and 1,650mAh battery.

Unsurprisingly, the HTC Ville C will get Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. The surprising part is seeing HTC Sense 4.5 being listed there. If it’s right on the money, we may see HTC rolling out the 4.5 UI overlay to its trio of flagship models before we see the HTC Ville C being released. Except for the S3 processor, the specs we’re seeing of the HTC Ville C now are very similar to HTC One S. Hopefully some pictures of the HTC Ville C will leak in the coming days to see how much resemblance it’ll have to the One S.

Are you digging the specs of the HTC Ville C so far, especially if it’ll be offered cheaper than the HTC One S?
